Police arrest drug leader, 4 others in Cotabato - Sun.Star

A SUSPECTED drug group leader and four other others were nabbed in a string of anti-narcotics operations in Cotabato City recently, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Wednesday.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac, Jr. identified the arrested suspects as Solaiman Isra, alias Solai, 38, leader of the notorious Isra Drug Group operating in Cotabato City; Fatima Karim, alias Tima, 41, a watch-listed drug personality; Bai Dang Gulam, alias Dang, 46; Surbaya Saidona, alias Tee, 31; and Samira Singson, alias Mir, 38.

On February 2, around 10:45 p.m., elements of PDEA in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, who were armed with a warrant of arrest, swooped down on Isra inside a restaurant in Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City.

Isra, who was previously charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, yielded an additional five plastic sachets containing about two grams of suspected shabu during the search.

Isra is now detained at a PDEA detention facility. He will be facing another case for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of RA 9165.

On February 3, the same operatives of PDEA conducted a buy-bust operation in Old Market Site, Poblacion 6, Cotabato City, which resulted in the arrest of Karim and Gulam after they sold a sachet of shabu to a poseur-buyer. Operatives also seized from the suspects another eight plastic sachets of shabu.

Saidona and Singson, who were present during the operation, were also held by the operatives after they were caught red-handed in possession of six plastic sachets of shabu.

Appropriate charges for violation of Article II of RA 9165 are now being prepared for filing in court against the suspects who are now detained at a PDEA detention facility. (SDR/Sunnex)
