Two people killed in road accidents - The Press Association

A pedestrian and a motorcyclist have died in separate road accidents.

An elderly woman was hit by a dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra car in Benhar Road in Shotts, North Lanarkshire, at about 4.20am on Tuesday. She died at the scene while the 46-year-old driver was not injured.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and said it is sending a report to the procurator fiscal. The woman's age is not known but police said she was elderly.

On Monday, a motorcyclist died in a collision with another biker, Central Scotland Police said.

The accident happened when a west-bound white Citroen minibus crossed the carriageway into a layby on the east-bound side of the road. Two eastbound motorcyclists, one on a Yamaha and one on a Honda, collided and the Honda rider, Brian Allan, 62, died at the scene.

Officers are looking for information about the accident which happened at about 4pm on the A904 near Linlithgow, West Lothian.

The road was closed for four hours for investigations.

Meanwhile, a 78-year-old woman who died in a two-car collision on Friday has been named by police.

Rhoda Lawton, from Perth, died at the scene of the accident which happened at about 10am at Tibbermore crossroads in Perthshire.

She was a passenger in a blue Mazda along with four other women. Two of them, aged 82 and 83, were seriously injured and are being treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The crash, on the road that runs from Perth to Madderty village, also involved a silver Renault Laguna.
