5 people dead after Indian reservation shooting - KGET 17

Five people are dead, including the gunman who Tulare County Sheriff's Deputies say, opened fire on the Tule Indian Reservation near Porterville.

The peaceful community on the Tule Indian Reservation was rattled Saturday night when Tulare County Sheriff's Deputies say 31-year-old Hector Celaya killed three people. Neighbors say it started on Chimney Road.

"They were just shot in their homes, one was out by the shed, I think," said Tracy Behill, who lives on the reservation.

Deputies responded to shots fired on the reservation near Porterville around 8 p.m. Saturday night.

They say they found the bodies of a man and woman in a trailer and another man dead nearby.

Deputies also found a little boy, believed to be Celaya's son, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies caught Celaya around 2 a.m. after they say he led them on a chase, outside the town of Lindsay with his two young daughters.

Deputies say Celaya shot the girls and led officials on a chase.

"It's just sad at the hands of their own father, and It's scary because that's just way close to home," said Behill.

During the chase, officials say Celaya shot at deputies and they fired back, striking Celaya. He died several hours later.

"He was quiet, stayed to himself and didn't go very many places," said neighbor Erwin Mcdarment.

Mike Franco, Celaya's cousin, says Hector Celaya lived in a black trailer.

Franco says their whole family lives nearby on a hill, and they're devastated.

"The grandchildren, three generations right there, boom," said Franco.

The family tells 17 News one of Celayas' daughters died after the shooting. The other is expected to survive.

The condition of the boy who was shot, is not known.
