A man at the center of his wife's murder in Chesterfield had been arrested for attacking his wife in the past, according to court documents.
Tony Williams was arrested for assaulting Mia Williams in 2006. At the time, an emergency protective order was issued against Tony Williams, but wasn't renewed after it expired five days later.
In the arrest warrant, a Chesterfield officer writes that he responded to the Williams' home on July 12, 2006. Mr. Williams met the officer in the driveway saying the couple had "it worked out."
Then, Mia Williams "came outside of the house crying" and the officer observed a swollen lip and bite mark on her arm. She told the officer her husband attacked her when he found her on the phone with a male friend. The assault charges were eventually dropped.
Monday, Mia Williams was found stabbed to death in her home in the 13500 block of Brandy Oaks Road, in a neighborhood just off Beach Road in Chesterfield. Police were called to the home by her teenaged children at 9:23 p.m. Monday. Tony Williams, drove off before officers arrived, police said.
While neighbors say they're surprised by Mia Williams' murder, one neighbor often hear the couple arguing next door.
"They had marital problems," said Mimi Cave. "You could hear shouting, but I never expected this."
Other than the shouting, Cave describes the couple and their teenaged children as "quiet."
"They often stayed indoors," said Cave.
Neighbors said they believe the children are now staying with their grandmother.
