ZEPHYRHILLS — Deputies arrested three men Friday night after a foot chase that turned up guns, drugs and several thousand dollars in cash.

Four deputies were patrolling about 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of Cole Avenue and Bell Street, listed in reports as a drug area, when they came across five males standing outside a vehicle and a heavy smell of marijuana around them, a Pasco County Sheriff's report states.

The deputies stopped and searched them. One deputy found a black handgun in the center console of the vehicle. During the search, the report states, Nicholas Shane Trujillo, 19, took off running, carrying a bookbag.

Deputies shouted at him to stop. Trujillo threw a pistol into woods while he ran, the report states. Deputies chased him almost a mile before catching him.

In Trujillo's pocket, the report states, deputies found $3,500. The backpack held several bags of marijuana and a scale. In another bag inside the vehicle, deputies found more marijuana and a silver gun, the report states.

Trujillo was charged with obstructing an officer, carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.

He was being held at Land O'Lakes jail Tuesday in lieu of $55,300 bail.
