Man murdered at Windy Hill - Trinidad & Tobago Express

NORTHERN Division Police are bracing for more violence in the Arouca and Arima areas following the Thursday night shooting death of a gang member who was well known to them.

The victim, Shakka Gibbs, alias Shakka Demus, was 29.

Police said that around 8.15 p.m. he hired a PH driver to take him to the Windy Hill area in Arouca.

When he got to his presumed destination he asked the driver to stop, a short distance away from four men dressed in black.

The four men approached the car and one drew a machine-gun.

The driver became afraid and opted to leave his car and run, while Gibbs remained in the vehicle.

The man with the machine-gun pointed the weapon at Gibbs and squeezed the trigger hitting Gibbs multiples times to his face, neck and chest.

The one-time gang member was killed instantly.

The driver ran to some houses nearby and begged the occupants to call the police, which they did.

A team of officers from the Northern Division Task Force later arrived on the scene where they searched for the killers but they remained at large up to press time last night.

Gibbs' body was taken to the Port of Spain Mortuary and a post-mortem is expected to be done on Monday as no-one came forward and positively identified his body.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.

The murder toll stood at 325 up to press time last night.

Police said that Gibbs was wanted for questioning in connection with a number of shootings, as well as gun and ammunition possession, but he was always elusive.

Investigators also said they believed Gibbs was "set up" and "put in place" by someone he knew and trusted.

Thursday's murder was the second to occur in the Windy Hill, Arouca area in the last two weeks.
