No tattoos, 'obscene dresses' in garba: MLA's 'army' to keep an eye on youngsters - Daily Bhaskar

Indore: Feisty BJP MLA Usha Thakur on Thursday announced to guard young girls against eve teasing and 'courtship' through formation of an army of monitors comprising 1000 girls.

The ostensible objective of the move is to check obscenity in the coming Garba celebrations and ensuring that Indian traditions are not violated.
Usha Thakur, a known face of RSS in the city, said she has around 1000 girls who will ensure that eve-teasing does not take place at the garba celebrations. They will also keep an eye on the antecedents of participants by checking their identity cards. The girls will spread a message to all event organisers to collect copies of identity cards of participants of garba dance so that their backgrounds are ascertained, she told DNA.

The legislator, who sports a kripan and is known for wielding sticks in agitations led by her in the past, said she will hold a mega-discussion of all garba organizers at Preetamlal Dua auditorium on October 9.

"We will be informing them about the dress code the dancers should adopt and ask them to hold dance events of girls and boys in separate enclosures," Thakur said.

"Garba is a festival of offering prayers to the Goddess. Wearing tattoos or obscene dresses during such offerings is not Indian culture," she claimed.

The festival of Navratri will start from October 16 wherein Garba celebrations are organized at over 5000 spots in the city every year.Preparations for the dance celebrations begin nearly a month before the celebrations with the participants practicing moves with the help of experts.

Thakur claimed that she will also seek help from the district administration to spread the message among the youngsters to follow Indian tradition while taking part in the revelries.
