RESIDENTS in a Flintshire village had a rude awakening when they discovered vandals had been on a spray painting spree.
An eight-foot image of male genitalia was painted on a councillor's house in what was one of about 20 overnight attacks on homes, garages and cars in Caerwys.
Jim Falshaw, of Bell House, High Street, discovered the shocking image.
"We were disgusted," said Mr Falshaw, who is the county councillor for Caerwys.
"It's never happened here before.
"It has come as quite a shock."
Mr Falshaw has since painted over the graffiti, which was emblazoned underneath his bedroom window.
"It was drawing quite a lot of attention," he said. "Especially with the children going to school.
"It wasn't just sprayed it was tidily done. It was very detailed."
A Caerwys resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "The reaction was one of absolute horror. We are upset that someone should feel they can defile our property in such a way.
"The graffiti was put on overnight and residents of Caerwys woke on Thursday to find at least 20 incidents involving cars and property all through the town.
"It started at the top of Caerwys Hill by the Memorial Institute and carried on up South Street and ended just before the Piccadilly Inn.
"No one saw or heard anything.
"At first it was erroneously believed that the graffiti had been done by local youths but that is not believed to be the case.
"Police were out in force over Thursday morning looking for evidence.
"Caerwys people are shocked and dismayed their town has been defiled in this way and want the perpetrators quickly brought to justice."
