Home Team agencies seized about 1.4kg of heroin from a Malaysian drug courier at Tuas Checkpoint on 3 January.
In a follow-up operation, two local drug traffickers were arrested where a further small amount of heroin and 'Ice' was seized.
The first arrest occurred at 7.20am on 3 January when Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) stopped and checked a 28-year-old male motorcyclist, leading to the discovery of a black bundle hidden below the headlight of the motorcycle.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) was immediately notified as the officers believed the bundle to contain controlled drugs.
CNB officers then further searched the Malaysian-registered motorcycle and detected four more black bundles hidden below the right and left fairings of the motorcycle, totalling the heroin found to be 1.4kg.
On the same day a follow-up operation was conducted at 2.30pm, leading to the arrest of two male Singaporeans, aged 47 and 64, in a Singapore-registered car near Woodlands Street 32.
Inside, 85 straws of heroin (weighing a total of 115g), a small packet of 'ice', drug paraphernalia, more than $5,000 cash, and two flick knives were also recovered in the vehicle.
In addition, another packet of heroin, weighing about 8g, was found in another car in the same vicinity in the early hours of 4 January.
In all, 1.5kg of heroin and 0.4g of 'ice' with a total estimated street value of approximately $160,000 was seized.
The Singaporean men are being investigated for drug trafficking while the Malaysian is being investigated for drug importation.
If convicted, both parties may face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
In a press release by CNB, Ng Ser Song, director of CNB, said: "This 1.5kg heroin seizure by both agencies on the third day of the new year signifies our strong determination to target and take down the whole drug supply chain. We will not allow any drug syndicates to carry out drug activities in Singapore."
