There were an unusually high number of fatal traffic incidents over the weekend, bringing the city's total to 18 fatal incidents in 2012, and Hamilton Police Services are asking for any potential witnesses to any of the incidents to come forward.
69-year-old man crashes into tree
On Nov. 30, at around 10:30 a.m., a 69-year-old St. George man lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on Hwy#5 near Woodhill Rd. in Flamborough. It is believed the man lost control of the car after suffering a medical emergency. At the request of the family, the man's name is being withheld.

Man killed while attempting to hold down mattress
On Dec. 1, at around 9:30 p.m., a pick-up truck was travelling eastbound on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway. In the rear of truck was a Hamilton man attempting to hold down a mattress. When the truck reached the area between Upper Gage Ave and Upper Ottawa St., both the man and the mattress were ejected from the back of the truck. The man, 22, was taken to hospital where was then pronounced dead. His name is being withheld.
Police are still investigating what caused the man to be ejected from the truck. While the driver has offered information, they're looking for independent witnesses to come forward and contact Det/Cst. Matt Hewko at 905-546-4755.
87-year-old woman struck and killed
On Dec. 2, at 9:30 a.m. in Dundas an 87-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car as she attempted to cross the intersection of Governors Rd. near Overfield St in Dundas. The driver of the car, a 44-year-old Flamborough man, was not injured and no charges have been laid.
Police are continuing to investigate. Potential witnesses are asked to contact Det/Cst. Walter Niblock at 905-546-4753.
