At about 3 p.m., the Vacaville Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team and Crime Suppression Team, along with Vallejo officers, served two narcotics-related warrants at two residences in Vallejo.
Before serving the warrants, the CST tried to carry out a traffic stop on Lino Jimenez, 33, who immediately led officers on a pursuit onto westbound Interstate 80. During the pursuit, which reached speeds of 75 to 80 mph, Jimenez threw out his window what is believed to be methamphetamine, Vacaville police Sgt. Rick Elm said in a press release.
After discarding the evidence, Jimenez slowed and stopped his vehicle near the Potrero Avenue exit in El Cerrito and was taken into custody without incident. Police said Jimenez had his 5-year-old daughter in the vehicle at the time of his arrest.
There was evidence that Jimenez exposed his daughter to the suspected methamphetamine while discarding it from his vehicle during the pursuit, Elm said, adding that some of the suspected methamphetamine was later recovered from the freeway.
In a separate traffic stop near her residence, officers arrested Kristen Melgarejo, 30. She was taken into custody without incident, and some two ounces of suspected methamphetamine, with a street value of $1,200 an ounce, and
approximately $17,000 in cash was seized from her vehicle. While serving the two search warrants, investigators found more evidence of drug sales, Elm said.Jimenez was booked into Solano County Jail for child cruelty, failure to yield to a police officer, destruction of evidence, transporting of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
Melgarejo was also booked for possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Vacaville police drug tip line at 449-5243.
