Drug arrests in Biddeford - KeepMEcurrent.com

BIDDEFORD - Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested four people in Biddeford last week on a variety of drug charges, according to JoAnne Fisk, Biddeford's deputy police chief.

On Thursday, Nov. 29, agents were conducting surveillance near TD Bank North on Elm Street at about 1:45 p.m. when they noticed Jeremy Cook, 39, of Sanford was parked nearest the front entrance to the bank for an unusual amount of time, Fisk said in a press release.

Agents watched as Cook exited the vehicle and removed a backpack from the trunk. They ran the plates and learned the vehicle was registered to a suspected drug trafficker and user from Scarborough, according to Fisk.

After observing activity consistent with drug use inside the vehicle, the agents approached and arrested Cook on two Class D misdemeanors - threatening display of or carrying a concealed weapon and illegal possession of hypodermic apparatus.

At the time of his arrest, Cook was in possession of a loaded 40-caliber handgun, as well as a variety of hypodermic apparatuses and other drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use, the press release stated.

Also on Thursday, Maine Drug Enforcement agents learned of a possible heroin overdose in the parking lot at the Dunkin Donuts, located on Spruce Street, Fisk said.

The agents ended up arresting Daniel M. Burns, 22, his mother, Jacqueline E. Swann, 42, and Burns' girlfriend, Alanna V. Derrig, 19, all of Portland, and charging all three with a Class C felony of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, according to Fisk.

She said all three were in possession of and admitted to purchasing and using heroin. In addition, Fisk said, Burns was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center where he was treated for the overdose and was later released.
