MANILA, Philippines – Leaders of notorious drug groups were arrested in separate operations conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in San Pablo City, Laguna and Isabela last week.
The leader of the Brul Drug Group, Helder Brul, 59, was arrested along with his son, Edwin, 36, after PDEA agents conducted a search of their residence in City Subdivision, Cornista Street in San Pablo, Laguna last October 19.
Agents of the PDEA Regional Office 4A and the San Pablo City Police served an arrest warrant against the Bruls in their residence. The agents recovered 11 plastic sachets of shabu and various drug paraphernalia in the Brul residence.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. said in a statement that the father-and-son tandem is included in the PDEA Target List of drug personalities operating in Laguna.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Dela Cruz Drug Group was arrested in Santiago, City, Isabela last October 21 by PDEA agents.
Roderick Dela Cruz, 31, was arrested after agents of PDEA Regional Office 2 and the NBI Cagayan Valley Regional Office searched his residence in Rufino Roque Village, Sitio Quirat in Brgy. Rizal, which double as a drug den.
Dela Cruz was ranked no. 9 in PDEA's target list of drug personalities in Santiago City, Isabela.
PDEA operatives recovered 10 pieces of transparent plastic sachets of shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia in Dela Cruz's residence. They also arrested three more suspects who were caught sniffing shabu during the search.
Dela Cruz faces charges for violation of Article II of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, particularly Section 6 (Maintenance of a Den), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), and Section 12 (Possession of Paraphernalia for Dangerous Drugs).
The Bruls, meanwhile, have been charged for violation of Section 11 and 12. They are currently detained at the PDEA RO 4A jail facility in Canlubang, Laguna.
