Accused boyfriend stabber in custody, homicide ruled family violence - YNN, Your News Now

Murder charges have been filed against a woman police say killed a man during an altercation Tuesday evening.

According to a police spokesperson, officers were called to an apartment located in the 12800 block of Turtle Rock Road in Northwest Austin. Police found 19-year-old Cory Burns with multiple stabs wound and performed life-saving measures.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene.

Annette Valdez, 28, was arrested and charged with murder, a first degree felony, for Burns' death.

During a press conference Thursday, a spokesperson with APD's homicide department said Valdez and Burns were in a romantic relationship and involved in a verbal altercation inside their apartment before the stabbing, which took place outside the residence.

Police say there were civilian witnesses to the incident, and are asking with anyone with additional information to contact police or call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.

Burns' death is Austin's 25th murder of the year of the year, and is classified as a family violence homicide. Of the 25 murders, five this year have been classified as family violence.

Valdez is being held in Williamson County Jail on $850,000 bond.
