At least five killed in separate shootings in Chicago - Press TV

The first killing took place on Saturday around 2:15 am local time when a gunman opened fire on two men in a parked car, killing one and injuring the other, Police Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

A few hours later, two people were killed and one wounded in another shooting incident, investigators said.

Also on Saturday afternoon, the bodies of a man and a teenager who had been shot to death were found in another part of the city.

So far, police have arrested no one with regard to the incidents.

In 2012, Chicago's homicide count exceeded 500 for the first time since 2008.

Every year, more than 30,000 people are shot and killed in the United States.

The US has an average of 87 deaths each day as a result of gun violence, with an average of 183 injured, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab and the Centers for Disease Control.

The year 2012 was a record setting year for gun sales in the US.

About 4.5 million firearms are sold annually in the country at a cost of two to three billion dollars.
