Sex offender made obscene remarks to woman he was following in Wakefield - Yorkshire Evening Post

A convicted sex offender from Pontefract was spotted making obscene remarks to a woman he was following in Wakefield city centre, a court heard.

Magistrates at Wakefield heard a member of the public saw 42-year-old David Spencer walking behind the woman on Cross Street at around 10.30am on June 3.

Prosecutor Karen Medley said the witness – who reported the incident to police – described seeing Spencer with his hand down his trousers as he made inaudible comments to the woman.

Mrs Medley told the court: "The defendant was arrested and he admitted he had been saying things of a sexual nature towards her. He said he had walked out of the bus station and followed the girl."

Spencer, of Carleton Road, Carleton Park, Pontefract, admitted using threatening words to cause harassment, alarm or distress. The court heard in 1994, Spencer was convicted of an offence of gross indecency with a child.

And in 2005, he was convicted of an offence of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.

His name was placed on the Sex Offender's Register for life after the 2005 conviction.

Sentencing was adjourned until July and Spencer was bailed on condition he does not enter Wakefield city centre.
