Mumbai Customs arrest IAS officer's son with drugs - Mumbai Mirror

For the second time in less than a week, Mumbai customs on Sunday  recalled an aircraft to carry out a through check after an intercepted passenger revealed the presence of drugs on the board the flight.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) arrested Gautaman Duraiswami, 38, an engineer and son of an IAS officer from Tamil Nadu with 6 kilo drugs in his bag. In all 12 kg drugs were found.

Customs officials on Sunday night first apprehended 38-year-old Ahmed Basha of Chennai, who was to take a Malaysia Airline flight departing for Kuala Lumpur at 11.55 pm. On suspicion, officials started checking Basha's hand-baggage.

"A check revealed that the bag had a false bottom which led to the recovery of 6 kg of Methaqualone, a hypnotic drug," an officer of AIU said. A search of Basha's person revealed a ticket in the name of  Gautaman Duraiswami. When the officials checked with the airlines, Duraiswami had already boarded the flight to Malaysia.

Custom offcials then asked ATC to stop the flight which was ready to take off. Customs Commissioner PM Saleem said, "Investigations are on and appropriate actions will be taken."
