12 out of 148 accused in Maruti violence charged with murder - Times of India

The court also rejected bail petition by the defence counsel and refused to grant bail to any of the accused.

On July 18, agitated workers had unleashed violence against company officials during which a senior HR manager was killed and more than 100 were injured.

Defense counsel Rajendra Pathak said the court has framed charges against the accused. "We had applied for bail for 11 persons but none of them were granted bail. We appealed to produce complainant Deepak Anand so that he could identify the accused present on the spot but prosecution replied that Anand is no longer a company employee, therefore he could not be produced," he said, adding that prosecution has mentioned six injured as witnesses in the case.

Special prosecutor K T S Tulsi said prosecution will produce witnesses on the next hearing. "Total 12 persons have been charged for their direct role in murder," he added.

Earlier, accused persons were produced in the court but charge could not be framed after the defence counsel raised an objection and appealed before the court that prosecution has not revealed the names of all the witnesses and therefore, framing of charges cannot be done.

Recently, when the accused were produced in court, the prosecution had demanded that 12 accused persons should be tried for attempt to murder and other serious sections. Later, the court decided August 22 as the next date of hearing for framing of charges against the accused.

In the 3,000-page chargesheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in October last year, the cops had framed 145 persons after interviewing 300 witnesses.
