A police impersonator was arrested after allegedly accusing a real detective of being a drug dealer in Pueblo, Colorado.

Roland Herrera, 63, was caught out after approaching an off-duty officer at a mobile phone retailer before his cover was blown, police say.

The imposter is said to have approached the detective and demanded he hand over his drugs, claiming he was a genuine police officer.

'Why do you have so many phones? Are you a drug dealer?' he asked, according to a police report.

The tables were turned, however, when the real police officer flashed his badge and arrested Herrera for impersonating a police officer, according to The Pueblo Chieftain.

Sheriff Kirk Taylor, of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, said: 'Any law enforcement officer, when requested to, is required to show you credentials.

'To commit the crime of impersonation, a suspect is likely trying to intimidate you or gain compliance from you and if they are successful, it could be dangerous.'
