Couple arrested on drug charges following 911 call - Hernando Today

SPRING HILL - After responding to a home where a man was complaining of chest pains, a sheriff's deputy arrested a Spring Hill husband and wife on methamphetamine possession charges.

According to an arrest affidavit, Deputy Robert Somers responded along with EMS to a Blythville Road home. While James Lee Chartoff, 49, was checked by paramedics, Somers noticed a pill bottle "that contained a small baggie with what appeared to be methamphetamine inside."

Chartoff told the deputy he got the meth from an "evil person" and did not give any other information.

Chartoff's wife, Lisa Bonavita, 39, said her husband had fallen down and was briefly unresponsive before law enforcement arrived. When asked about the drugs, Bonavita said she thought the drugs were fake.

Both were arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, and booked at the Hernando County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Court records show Chartoff was adjudicated guilty of retail theft in the past. Court records also show Bonavita was charged earlier this month on possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. She has been adjudicated guilty of possession of paraphernalia in the past.
