16,198 cases of violence reported in 11 months

* 1060 children murdered, 338 persons committed suicide, 153 murdered after rape in last 11 months: Madadgar Helpline

KARACHI: Human rights situation in Pakistan is deteriorating, with violence showing an increasing trend, said Zia Ahmed Awan of Madadgaar National Helpline.

In a statement on Saturday, he said the Helpline recorded 16,198 cases of violence including 2946 cases of murder and professional killing, 1368 cases of suicide and 2053 cases of torture during last 11 months in 2012.

Madadgaar National Helplines Database report said as many as 16198 cases of violence against children, women and male were recorded in Pakistan from January to November 2012. Out of them, 6139 cases were of violence against children, 5725 cases of violence against women and 4334 cases of violence against males. From January 2000 to November 2012, 88416 cases of violence against women, 60974 cases of violence against of children, and 56190 of cases of violence against males were reported in Pakistan.

During last 11 months, 1060 children were murdered, 1323 injured, 217 trafficked, 291 went missing, 556 kidnapped, 174 fell prey to honor killing, 436 suffered sexual assault, 338 committed suicides, 320 raped, 235 sodomized, 447 became victim of forced marriages and 561 braved torture.

During this period, 1284 women were tortured, 990 murdered, 401 raped, 153 murdered after rape, 163 gang raped, 431 committed suicide, 270 fell prey to honor killing, 533 tortured by police, 158 trafficked, 261 married forcibly.

Out of 4334 cases of violence against males, 959 fell victim of police torture, 515 committed suicides, 402 trafficked, 896 fell prey to professional killing and 185 cases of honor killing of males were reported.

Zia Awan said there was a need to speak about the human rights in Pakistan and take stern measures for eliminating human-rights violations.

Madadgar Helpline statement said in Pakistan, there were not only gender discrimination, but also violation of rights of labor, minorities, males, children, and elderly people. Human Rights Day is observed every year on December10 across the world including Pakistan.

This day presents an opportunity to celebrate human rights and advocate the full enjoyment of all human rights. But still numerous cases of violence and abuses are being reported on daily basis in Pakistan. Madadgaar National.
