Nelly arrested in Texas for drugs and weapon found on tour bus - Examiner.com

Hip-hop star Nelly was arrested recently in the town of Sierra Blanca in Texas due to authorities finding hidden drugs under his tour bus floorboards. Additionally, a .45-caliber pistol was found on board the bus. The rap and pop star recently released a statement claiming he had no idea any of the illegal items were on board the bus.

Among the items found on board were heroin, marijuana, and the aforementioned pistol. The NewsOxy.com website reported on Sunday, October 14, that Nelly, real name Cornell Iral Haynes, had been arrested with five others on board the bus. They were all eventually released once Brian Keith confessed that the illegal drugs found on the bus belonged to him.

Following the arrest, Nelly said in a statement about the incident:

"It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning. Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials in Sierra Blanca, Texas did not press charges against anyone other than that individual."

A total of seven men, including Nelly, had been detained once a drug-sniffing dog went after a cardboard box. That box contained the drugs and weapon which led to to a further search. Underneath the floorboard of the bus was a large green duffle bag which had over 10 pounds of marijuana inside sealed bags.

It's been noted that Nelly isn't the first musician to have been arrested at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint in Texas. Others have included Fiona Apple, Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson and Armie Hammer. Fiona Apple was the most recent arrest, as she was detained back on September 20, 2012, and has mug shots floating around the internet.

Nelly has been active in hip hop since as early as 1993, but his commercial success came with the hit song and same-titled album, "Country Grammar," in 2000. Among Nelly's other hit songs over the years are "Hot in Herre," "Air Force Ones," and a country-rap crossover duet, "Over and Over," with Tim McGraw.
