TOWN OF DUNNThe Dane County Medical Examiner reports that alcohol could have fueled a one-car crash that killed three people early today in Dane County.
According to a news release from the medical examiner's office: Darin S. Carey, 44, Stoughton, Rebecca M. Carstens, 39, Sun Prairie and Steven M. Leslie, 44, Beaver Dam were killed at about 2:30 a.m. today when the car they were in went off the road and struck trees.
The car reportedly was southbound on Highway 51 south of Schneider Drive in the town of Dunn when it veered off the road, over corrected and went down an embankment, where it struck two trees, the Dane County Sheriff's Office reported.
Carey and Leslie were thrown from the vehicle, and Carstens was pinned inside, the sheriff's office reported.
All three were pronounced dead at the crash. They were the only occupants in the car, which was a late-model Oldsmobile Cutlass, the sheriff's office reported.
None of the three were wearing seatbelts, and preliminary autopsies suggest that alcohol may have contributed to the crash, the sheriff's office reported.
The crash is still under investigation by the sheriff's office.
