NEWBURGH An early Friday morning no-knock search warrant raid of an apartment at 77 Chambers Street in Newburgh resulted in the arrests of four people and the seizure of heroin, crack cocaine and cash.
The investigation was led by the Newburgh Police narcotics Unit under Case Officer Joseph Burns and it involved the distribution of heroin from the basement apartment.
The investigation uncovered information leading to the issuance of a search warrant for the entire building, including the basement, first, second and third floors.
The main persons of interest were the second floor residents identified as Dwayne Wallace and Rebecca Haschak.
Officers recovered 744 packaged envelopes of heroin, 6.5 grams of unpackaged heroin, 6.8 grams of crack cocaine, drug packaging materials and $18,710 in cash.
Wallace, 48, was charged with several felony drug possession counts as well as felony criminal use drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor of drug possession. He is currently on parole for a felony drug sale conviction.
Haschak, 29, was charged with felonies and misdemeanors of criminal possession of drugs.
Raymond Staffon, 23, who lives in the basement apartment, was charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession and Margaret Arrotta, 44, of the Town of Newburgh, was charged with misdemeanor drug possession.
