Two Richmond County men are facing felony charges after police said they were selling drugs just yards away from an elementary school.
Narcotics detectives arrested Fletcher Bryant and Wesley Clark last Thursday after they said a confidential informant tipped them off the to the drug sales.
"These were street-level dealers," said Rockingham Police Chief Bill Kelly.
Authorities said Bryant and Clark were selling prescription painkillers and meth, which caused concern because of the home's close proximity to Monroe Avenue Elementary, which sits about 30 yards away.
"Meth, when making it, is very dangerous -- explosions, gases, so forth," Kelly said.
When police raided the home, they said they did not find evidence of any recent meth cooks or an active meth lab.
They did find children living inside the home with the suspects, according to authorities, and arrested both men on drug charges.
Parents picking up students at the school Thursday afternoon were shocked to learn about the drug operation.
"The worst part is that it's right next to the school. That's insane," said Jose Cosino, who was picking up his nephew.
A relative of one suspect told Channel 9 the allegations were untrue.
