Tauranga father and son arrested after drug raid - 3News NZ

A Tauranga father and son who are both on the sickness benefit face multiple drug charges after police found cocaine and methamphetamine in a raid.

The 50-year-old father and his 21-year-old son each face five charges after the raid at a Mount Maunganui apartment block last month.

Police found a 130g bag of cocaine, a 220g bag of methamphetamine and $15,000 cash in a hidden storage unit in the January 20 raid.

It followed inquiries at the apartment block in December, where a man was found in possession of both drugs.

Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier says the cocaine could have a street value of between $260,000 and $1 million, depending on purity, and the methamphetamine has a street value of about 220,000.

"Cocaine is a highly sought-after and heavily addictive drug and it is unusual to locate such a large quantity at one time," Det Sgt Brazier said.

"We will continue to treat any information concerning drug-dealing activity with urgency."

The men will appear in Tauranga District Court on Friday each facing charges of importing cocaine, possession of cocaine for supply, supplying cocaine, possession of methamphetamine for supply and supplying methamphetamine.
