Two arrested on drug charges - Elko Daily Free Press

ELKO — Police arrested two people Sunday during a traffic stop when neither would claim drugs found in their vehicle, according to Elko Police Capt. Will Lehmann.

Officers pulled over Ryan Cowles, 29, just after 1:30 a.m. for driving at night without lights.

When officers searched the car they found a substantial quantity of prescription pills in a jar, marijuana and a gun under the driver's seat, Lehmann said.

Both Cowles and passenger Katharine Able, 28, said the drugs belonged to the other person, so they were both arrested and booked on possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Cowles was also arrested for driving on a suspended license, possession of a hypodermic device and possession of drug paraphernalia. Because Cowles has three prior felony convictions, he was also arrested for ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Cowles was bound over to Elko District Court Oct. 23 to face charges of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to Free Press archives.

Able was arrested June 14 at Eighth and Commercial streets for her third offense of battery domestic violence, according to Free Press archives.

Able's bail was listed at $10,737. Cowles's bail was listed at $17,375.
