Former NFL executive calls out Oakland Raiders coach for using obscene gesture - USA TODAY

coach

After officials threw a flag on Oakland Raiders cornerback Mike Jenkins for a personal foul on a defenseless receiver Sunday, Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver lost his cool. The second-year coach was caught on camera screaming in the direction of officials and briefly raising his middle finger.

That gesture was noticed by many, including Mike Pereira, the NFL's former Vice President of Officiating and current Fox analyst. Pereira penned a column for FoxSports.com in which he called out Tarver for his behavior. He wrote:

"[Tarver] twice dropped F-bombs on the officials and both times flipped them the bird."

Pereira also announced, with pride, that he'd contacted the league office to alert officials of Tarver's actions.

The retired official understands that he may be called a whistleblower. He doesn't mind.

I still felt that the league needed to know about it and that's why I called. If you want to call me a whistleblower, then call me a whistleblower because I let the league office know about it.

This kind of behavior is totally unacceptable.

Right on, Mike. Don't blame the messenger. Blame the man who couldn't keep the center finger on his right hand from quickly rising above the others.

Pereira wrote that he expects Tarver to receive a fine for his outburst.

The kicker to the whole thing: Officials picked up the flag against Jenkins and didn't penalize him for the hit.
