BREAKING NEWS: Plane crashes into house in Palm Coast - ActionNewsJax.com

PALM COAST, Fla.-- Federal investigators are trying to figure out why a plane crashed into a home in Palm Coast.

"It's surreal. You wonder if it really happened," said Jessica Crockett. That's why Crockett had to see it for herself. Friday, a plane came crashing down through the roof of her home. Her mom Susan was still stuck inside. "She says it's all kind of a blur. She just remembered trying to get out the house was on fire," said Crockett.

Crockett says her mom did the only thing she could to save herself. "She climbed through the window of the bedroom," said Crockett.

Armando Gonzalez saw the whole thing. "She was saying there's an airplane in my house, an airplane in my house," said witness Armando Gonzalez. "We hear an explosion....We see the house in flames and tail of plane sticking out of house," said Gonzalez.

The plane took off from Fort Pierce for Downtown Island Airport in Knoxville when the pilot reported having engine trouble.  The Florida Highway Patrol says the pilot reported smoke in the engine, and then "entered an area of bad weather."

The 1957 Bonanza H35 plane was diverted to the Flagler airport when it crashed just after 2 p.m.  FHP says the plane appeared to make a steep descent prior to hitting the roof of the home.

Police tell Action News the pilot reported violent shaking in the engine and a plume of smoke. Now the big question is why this plane went down, killing three people. FHP says they were trying to land the plane at the Flagler airport, less than a mile from where it crashed. That's why Crockett says it wasn't uncommon for them to hear planes sounding like they were right on top of their home. "It's sad now but yeah we used to joke all the time. Planes are loud and fly low. We never thought it'd happen," said Crockett.

But it did and Crockett is just glad she can still wrap her arms around her mom. "The fact that my mother survived, and got out, my mom is a strong woman. Nothing will shake her faith in God. I'm so thankful she's still here. I love her to death.

Investigators have not released the names of the three people in the home who died. They plan to hold a news conference Saturday at 3 p.m.
