Miley Cyrus Sex Tape Scandal Scam Sweeps Internet - Gather.com

Poor Miley Cyrus. The Party in the U.S.A. singer just can't seem to get away from controversy--even when it's not her fault. First, her ex boyfriend, Nick Jonas writes a song that may or may not be about her, thereby upsetting her fiancé, Liam Hemsworth. Now, someone has started a new Facebook scam online that's not only using La Cyrus' name, but also claiming to have a sex tape of her. Yikes.

Facebook users should beware of a new scam that uses a non-existent Miley Cyrus sex tape as bait. The scammers work by announcing the sex tape as a "breaking news" story to get people--mostly men--to click on their link. "By clicking the image, users are taken to a web page where the video appears to be hosted," warns Hot For Security. "When trying to play the clip, users are requested to first prove that they are not underage." That allows Facebook users to "fall prey to the copy/paste code method that lets the scammer steal the victim's Facebook authentication token." After that come the inevitable other forms of identity theft. Although the Miley Cyrus Sex Tape Facebook scam is a new one, having started just last weekend, it's spreading like wildfire. If you are presented with an invitation to view or purchase such a tape, don't fall for it. Remember: When something seems to good (or too outrageous to be true, that's usually because it is. Note: Wonder what Liam Hemsworth will have to say about this one?
