Vermilion/Municipal Task Force drug arrests - KATC Lafayette News

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Chief Tony Hardy and Chief Boyd Adams, the Vermilion / Municipal task force made following arrests recently for drug related offense.
While working criminal patrol and street sales disruption, agents pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation. After a brief interview, agents were given permission to search the vehicle, in which agents located suspected crack cocaine. The driver of the vehicle, Malcolm Ardoin (dob 1/18/95) of Abbeville was arrested for possession of crack cocaine.

Agents received information in reference to persons possibly dealing illicit narcotics from a residence near the intersection of Hwy 338 and Hwy 339, just North of Erath. After applying for, and obtaining a search warrant, agents traveled to the residence located 3211 La 338. Upon executing the warrant agents seized one pound of marijuana, and four weapons. Glen Shelvin (11/6/48) is charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of firearms in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of a stolen firearm. Shelvin was not home at the time of the warrant being executed but Shelvin's attorney did contact the Task Force and advise that he would be turning his client in.

Agents once again applied for and were granted a search warrant for a residence located in Kaplan, where suspected drug activity was taking place. Upon executing the warrant, and entering the residence located at 213 A East 6th St, agents located a four year old toddler alone in the living area. As they made their way further into the residence they heard voices coming from one of the rooms. As the agents opened the door, they encountered three persons sitting, with one male subject in possession of a large amount of marijuana in a bowl breaking the marijuana down into smaller baggies for street sales. Agents seized marijuana; paraphernalia for distribution, along with suspected drug proceed monies. Marcellius Duncan (10/27/77) of Kaplan was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute a schedule II prescription narcotic, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank the following persons for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams "I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayors and Chiefs of these cities are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
