Drugs officers arrest 28 people at Birmingham club - BBC News

Twenty eight people who are suspected of being part of a drugs gang have been arrested during a raid on a club.

West Midlands Police said officers raided Club DV8 in Lower Essex Street, Birmingham, just after midnight.

They were arrested for "various drugs offences including supply, possession and cultivation," a spokesman said.

Ten of those arrested were in the country illegally and were detained by Border Agency staff ahead of their removal back to Vietnam.

A 22-year-old man, held in the operation, is being questioned by detectives in connection with a drugs-related shooting at an address in Rotton Park Road, Edgbaston, last September.

Sgt David Sproson, from West Midlands Police's Drugs Investigation Team, said the police raid followed several months of background and intelligence work.

"We have seized a significant quantity of cannabis, pills and also numerous bags containing white powder.

"The tablets and powder will be sent away for testing but it's strongly believed they are ecstasy and Class A drugs."
