Fayetteville police identify the three people killed in west Fayetteville shooting - Fayetteville Observer

Fayetteville police say a couple were shot in their home before the suspect took his own life Saturday evening.

The shooting was at 8:14 p.m. on Potters Court in the Farmington subdivision, which is off Cliffdale Road in western Cumberland County.

Todd Andwelt, 48, and his wife, Ann Andwelt, 64, were shot with a handgun in their home, police Lt. Todd Joyce said Saturday.

Ann Andwelt was found dead, while Todd Andwelt later died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Their dog was shot and killed, too, Joyce said.

"There is nothing to suggest that the suspect knew the victims," Joyce said.

Police said that during an extensive search in the neighborhood, they found the shooter, Allen Thomas, 29, of the 7900 block of Gaza Circle, dead of apparently self-inflicted gunshot wounds on Christina Street, near Hoke Loop Road.

"At this point detectives believe the deceased subject is the suspect responsible for the shooting that occurred on Potters Court," Joyce said in a news release.

"It's tragic for this family," Joyce said.

Police were dispatched to the 7900 block of Gaza Circle in the Farmington subdivision for a report of shots fired. As officers were responding to the scene, they received additional information that two people had been shot in their residence on Potters Court and that the suspect was seen fleeing on foot, the police release said.

Joyce said police don't believe the public is in any danger after the suspect took his life.
