Chelsea News: Chelsea investigate fan making obscene gestures to Danny ... - GiveMeFootball.com

Chelsea have announced they have launched an investigation into pictures showing one of their fans apparently making a monkey gesture during the 5-4 win over Manchester United last night.

The Blues won thanks to a goal from Ramires in extra time having fallen behind three times in the Capital One Cup clash, just days after Manchester United snatched a controversial 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

A picture has emerged of one Chelsea fan appearing to taunt Red Devils striker Danny Welbeck with a monkey gesture during the game, and the west London club have announced today they have launched a full investigation into the incident.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm we are investigating an incident involving a member of the crowd at last night's game against Manchester United," a statement read.

"The club will be examining all available footage and asks anyone who can identify the individual to contact the club.

"Chelsea FC is committed to removing all forms of discrimination and if we have sufficient evidence we will take the strongest possible action, including supporting criminal prosecution."

The incident comes after Chelsea revealed they have made a formal complaint against referee Mark Clattenburg for allegedly racially abusing blues midfielder John Obi-Mikel during Chelsea's first league defeat of the season on Sunday against United.

Clattenburg sent off both Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres during the fiery encounter, and was then accused of calling Mikel a 'monkey' and branding Juan Mata a 'Spanish t**t'.

After an internal investigation Chelsea decided to drop the complaint against Clattenburg regarding his supposed words to Mata, but will press ahead with their complaint over the 37-year-old's use of language against Mikel.

The Metropolitan Police have also announced they will launch their own enquiry into both incidents.
