Escatawpa's Eric 'E-40' Tait arrested again on drug charges - Mississippi Press (blog)

ESCATAWPA, Mississippi ---The Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County made the arrest of "a major drug dealer" related to criminal activity at "The Hole" in Kreole, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said Eric Eugene "E-40" Tait, 40, has been a known drug dealer for years and ''The Hole'' is an area of vacant overgrown lots and houses that has been riddled with drugs, prostitution, murders and robberies for at least 30 years.

Community members and business owners provided information that was instrumental in Tait's arrest. He was arrested at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at his home at the 4000 block of Knowlcreast Dr. in Escatawpa.

Drug agents seized a stolen 38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, a quarter piece of a crack cocaine cookie and an undetermined amount of cash. Agents believe the gun was stolen in a 2008 auto burglary that happened near Tait's home.

Tait was charged on a possession of crack cocaine offense with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm. He faces up to 14 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, if convicted. Because Tait had a weapon when he was arrested, the judge has the option to double the sentence and the fine raising them to possibly 28 years and a $500,000 fine.

Terry Jean "TP" Patterson, 49, who is Tait's mother-in-law, was also arrested. She was charged on a possession of crack cocaine offense. She remains at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center pending a bail hearing.

Tait was arrested last month by agents on a drug charge and he was free on $5,000 bail. That bail is expected to be revoked and Tait should remain in the Jackson County Adult Detention until the October charge is resolved.

Sheriff Mike Byrd said anyone with information about drug activity in Jackson County should call the Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County at 228-769-3302.
