Two people killed in crash on A140 at Hevingham - East Anglian Daily Times

An 87-year-old couple from Norwich have died following a crash on the A140 at Hevingham last night police have revealed.

A silver Renault Laguna travelling towards Aylsham and a silver Hyundai Getz going in the opposite direction were involved in a crash at just before 8.30pm last night.

The 87-male driver and female passenger, also 87, of the Hyundai were pronounced dead at the scene. The couple, who have not been named, are from the Norwich area.

A female passenger and three children from the Renault were taken to hospital suffering from fractures and internal injuries.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by Officers from Norfolk Constabulary's Collision Investigation Unit.

Emergency services, including police, ambulance and three fire crews - from Aylsham, Sprowston and Reepham - attended the crash which brings to four the total number of people killed on Norfolk's roads over the weekend following a fatal collision on the A47 at Hockering on Saturday.

Police yesterday revealed that two women aged 19 and 48 were killed in the crash which happened at about 4pm on a single carriageway section of the road the Dereham side of Hockering, between Mattishall Lane and Fox Lane,

The women - from the Dereham area - were travelling in a Ford Ka which was in collision with a Mercedes CLK.

Police said the Mercedes driver, a man from Hertfordshire, was not injured.

The crash prompted Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman to call for improvements to be made.

He said: "Enough is enough I will be writing to Minister to request an urgent meeting to reinforce the case for upgrading blackspots.

"My condolences go out to the families and friends."

The road was re-opened after being blocked for nearly four hours in both directions while officers carried out investigations,

Initially police said two people had been seriously injured, but they later confirmed both women had died.

Anyone who witnessed the collision either at Hevingham or Hockering should call police on 101.
