Police: LHS student arrested for selling dangerous drug to kid - KTRE

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Precinct 1 Constable's Office arrested a 17-year-old Lufkin High School student for child endangerment after he allegedly sold an "experimental drug" to a 14-year-old student who passed the drug on to two more 14-year-olds.

The last teen wound up spending the night in a Lufkin hospital after he had an immediate and severe reaction to the drug. According to the arrest affidavit, the third 14-year-old began to hallucinate and his pupils dilated. In addition, his heart rate sped up to the point that his parents took him to the hospital.

Cameron Dwayne Basham was booked into the Angelina County Jail Thursday on a charge of child endangerment, which is a state jail felony. He posted the $2,500 bond and was released later that day.

An officer with the Lufkin Police Department investigated the incident, which occurred on Nov. 9. Basham allegedly sold three small squares of a substance that he identified as an "experimental drug" called 25-CN-BOMe to a 14-year-old LHS freshman. The affidavit stated that the drug is a hallucinogen similar in structure to drugs like LSD or DOB.

Another student allegedly overheard Basham tell the boy, "This will (expletive) you up," according to the affidavit.

The 14-year-old ingested the drug and had a reaction about an hour later. His pupils dilated, and he had to leave school. However, after taking the first dose of the drug, the first victim gave the drug to another 14-year-old and told him to destroy it.

Instead of doing that, the second 14-year-old gave the remaining two squares of the drug to another 14-year-old freshman, who took it. After the severe reaction, the third victim was treated at a Lufkin hospital for more than 15 hours.

"During the initial questioning, he stated that he was trying to make money and admitted also giving the drug away to other students in hopes they would like it and come back to buy more," Officer Dan Lair of the Lufkin Police Department stated in the affidavit.
