A couple was arrested in Watsonville Friday in connection with alleged drug and gun possession and child endangerment offenses, police said.
Around 2:55 a.m. Friday, police stopped a car for a vehicle code violation near Green Valley Road and Green Meadow Drive, police said.
Officers recognized the car's passenger, 34-year-old Monterey County resident Andrew Downs, as a probationer who is subject to search. A search of the car revealed a hidden compartment containing methamphetamine and a scale.
Both Downs and his driver, 41-year-old Monterey County resident Kristie Jones, were arrested on suspicion of drug possession and for allegedly being under the influence of drugs.
After discovering that Downs was also in possession of a hotel key, officers conducted a probation search of the couple's hotel room and found more methamphetamine, heroin, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun, according to police.
Officers then conducted another search at Downs' Monterey County home and turned up more methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and evidence of drug sales.
The drugs were found to be accessible by a 6-year-old who lives at the home, prompting officers to contact Monterey County Child Protective Services.
Anyone with further information about this case is strongly encouraged to call Watsonville police at (831) 728-3544 or (831) 768-3352.
