Smyrna man arrested on drug charges at Dover hotel - newszap.com

DOVER – A joint drug investigation by state and city law enforcement led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Smyrna man late Wednesday night at a hotel on Leipsic Road, Dover Police Department Lt. Daniel J. McKeown said.

Augustine F. Butcher, of the 400 block of South Street, was found with crack cocaine, heroin and hydrocodone pills during the 11:15 apprehension at the Comfort Inn and Suites at 764 Leipsic Road, police said.

Police said officers from the Dover Police Drug Vice and Organized Crime Unit/Operation Safe Streets teamed with the Delaware State Police Governor's Task Force when contacting Mr. Butcher regarding outstanding warrants.

Mr. Butcher ran from officers and attempted to flush some of the drugs down the toilet when law enforcement arrived at the hotel, police said. The actions brought resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence charges, police said.

A hotel room search yielded 23 heroin bags, 6.8 grams of crack cocaine, 23 hydrocodone pills and $644 of suspected drug money, Lt. McKeown said. He was charged with separate counts of intent to distribute all three of the drugs, police said.

Police said Mr. Butcher was also wanted on numerous warrants from the Smyrna Police Department and had numerous bench warrants from the court. He was processed on the charges and is pending arraignment, police said.
