Women arrested for stealing drugs, money from dead man - WKYT

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Officers in Laurel County have arrested two women for stealing drugs and money from a dead man.

Deputies received a call of a man found dead on Dogwood Lane in Laurel County. When they arrived on the scene officers found 53-year-old Carole Jones and 41-year-old Amy Vanover.

Jones is reportedly the girlfriend of the deceased, and Vanover is reportedly a friend.

As deputies continued to investigate they discovered that Jones had in her possession xanax pill, morphine and a considerable amount of money that she says she had removed from the deceased prior to deputies arriving.

She told deputies she took it from the man because he would have wanted her to have it.

Jones was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence, burglary and several drug charges.

Vanover was found inside a detached garage belonging to the deceased man. Deputies located her with a spoon and needle in hand, and in possession of morphine allegedly given to her by the deceased man's girlfriend.

Vanover was also found in possession of stolen items taken from the deceased man's garage, stuffed in her pants, stating that the deceased man's girlfriend gave them to her because the man would not be needing them.

Vanover was charged with tampering with physical evidence, burglary and several drug charges.

In addition, Vanover was charged with criminal mischief because no the way to jail she reportedly intentionally damaged a radio speaker cord in a deputy's car.

Both women are being held in the Laurel County Detention Facility.
