An eight-month investigation was culminated with the arrests of eight people and the seizure of drugs and firearms, the King County Sheriff's Office said this morning.

The investigation started in April, when detectives learned about drug dealing in the Burien area.

Detectives spent months conducting surveillance on the suspect's home as well as other locations connected to the drug operation, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

On Wednesday the Sheriff's Office served search warrants on six locations, including a residence in the 1600 block of Southwest 116th Street in Burien and another in the 1200 block of Southwest 107th St.  Other locations where warrants were served included a residence and storage unit in Renton and a house in Federal Way, the Sheriff's Office said.

Some of the drugs seized during Wednesday's raids in South King County.

In addition to the arrests of eight adults, six children were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Seized during the reads were 1.25 pounds of cocaine; six ounces of heroin; $65,371 in cash; five firearms; and five vehicles valued at $60,000.

Detectives believe the firearms and ammunition were packaged for shipment for Mexico, where the suspects are all from, the Sheriff's Office said.

"We believe the ammo that we found was packaged to ship to Mexico.  It had been wrapped in multiple layers of tinfoil and dryer sheets (like Bounce) and multiple layers of cellophane.  They do this cause they think the dryer sheets will throw off the dogs and the tinfoil will beat an X-ray machine," according to the lead detective in the case, whose name was not released.
