Obscene letters sent to actor Madhoo in Ajay Mafatlal's name - Mumbai Mirror

Ajay Mafatlal, the scion of the Mafatlal family, could find himself embroiled in an embarrassing controversy after actor Madhoo (of Roja fame) told police that she received an envelope containing obscene material with Mafatlal's name mentioned as the sender.

Madhoo and her husband, who reside at Malabar Hill, said they have been inundated with obscene letters, and submitted a complaint with the Malabar Hill police around a month ago.

The couple told police that letters mentioned 'A Mafatlal' and one 'Mohammad Shakeel Qureshi', who is an acquaintance, as senders.

So far, police have given Mafatlal, 55, and Qureshi the benefit of doubt, as they found the names and addresses on the letters to be fakes. However, the cops are visiting the post office from where the letters are being posted to nail the culprits.

Letters containing explicit material against Madhoo were being circulated for nearly a month-and-a-half now.

Those letters were even sent to the Central Excise Office and the police station. On November 5, an envelope containing obscene pictures of the actress was dropped at her Malabar hill residence, following which she submitted the complaint.

The pictures were sent to the school where the actor's children study, and also to her close friends in south Mumbai. Police say a family dispute could be the reason behind the harassment, wherein the idea is to mentally trouble the actress.

DCP (Zone 2) Nisar Tamboli said, "We are speaking to the people concerned. Hopefully, we will get leads that will help us in nailing the culprits."

For Ajay Mafatlal, the timing couldn't have been worse. Recently, his brother Atulya had blamed him and their mother Madhuri for his marital problems, following which Madhuri Mafatlal issued a public notice declaring that she "disowns Atulya Mafatlal as her son and legal heir".

Ajay Mafatlal could not be contacted, but Madhoo insisted she hadn't "named anyone". She said, "I pointed out to police that such envelope was posted to me, and it's up to them to investigate."
