Loved Ones Remember Domestic Violence Murder Victims - KLAS-TV

LAS VEGAS -- One of the victims killed in a triple domestic violence shooting earlier this month was remembered Thursday.

Friends and family held a memorial service for Martha Gonzalez, 46, who was the mother shot and killed by her husband Antonio Garcia Hernandez.

Hernandez later turned the gun on himself.

"Abuse can come in any way, shape, and form," said Alberto Canez, who was also shot in the shoulder during the incident. "Mentally, physically, this, unfortunately, was physical but you just have to talk to somebody."

Canez said his mother was packing up her things to leave when his stepfather went on the attack.

The shooting left Canez and his three siblings without parents and said he never thought the violence would get out of control and hopes to save lives by raising awareness about domestic violence.

"It's a horrible tragedy, you do what you can to be strong because now I have to be responsible for my siblings and it's tough," said Canez. "You are dealt these cards you didn't want, but you make the best out of them."

Martha Gonzalez will be laid to rest Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Las Vegas.

An account has been set up to help the family.

Contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo under the Martha Gonzalez Family Memorial Fund.
