Traffic stops lead to 5 drug arrests - Huntington Herald Dispatch

Two separate traffic stops Tuesday night in Scioto County, Ohio, netted five arrests and the seizure of thousands of dollars of narcotics.

According to Lt. K.M. Taulbee of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, the first traffic stop occurred about 8 p.m. near Portsmouth when officers pulled over a 2001 Cadillac heading south on U.S. 23 for speeding and a lane violation. During a search of the vehicle, the officers found 1,004 30-milligram Oxycodone pills with a street value of more than $24,000, Taulbee said.

Dennis G. Hurd, 56, and Steven T. Washington, 25, both of South Point, Ohio, and William D. Whitfield, 28, of Huntington were arrested and charged with possession of Oxycodone and drug trafficking.

At about 9:15 p.m., Highway Patrol officers pulled over a 2012 Ford Fusion heading south on U.S. 23 near Lucasville for a lane violation. A search of the vehicle revealed it contained 2 ounces (56.6 grams) of heroin and 2 ounces (56.6 grams) of cocaine. The drugs have a street value of about $13,000, Taulbee said. Arrested were James D. Crocker, 33, and Dicey D. Deselle, 21, both of Detroit. They were charged with trafficking and possession of heroin and cocaine.

All five people arrested were taken to the Scioto County Jail, where following bonds were set: Hurd, $200,000; Washington, $200,000; Whitfield, $250,000; and Crocker, $400,000. Deselle was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, Feb. 14. Hurd, Washington, Whitfield and Crocker will appear for a pre-trial hearing in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Feb. 21.
