Sheriff: Woman arrested after snorting drug, falling asleep in store - Shelby Star

A woman was arrested after she took prescription drugs and fell asleep in a convenience store, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Alan Norman said deputies got a call about an intoxicated person at a business on Fallston Road around 4 p.m. Saturday.

"On arrival Sgt. Mark Self observed this individual sleeping in a dining room table at the convenience store," Norman said.

Norman said Self woke up the woman and got consent to search her vehicle.

"He could tell that she was not intoxicated but under the influence of some type of controlled substance," he said.

When deputies searched her vehicle, they found 48 dosage units of klonopin, according to Norman.

Klonopin is a drug commonly used to treat seizures caused by epilepsy.

"The defendant stated earlier in the afternoon she had snorted several klonopin and drank a glass of wine," he said.

Stacey Dawn Tennant, 45, of 126 Apple Tree Lane in Lawndale, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in a public building, simple possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to arrest warrants.

Norman said Tennant was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center with a $5,000 bond.

She was not listed as an inmate as of Monday.
