WEST YARMOUTH – Police arrested a man on drug charges this morning after serving a search warrant and allegedly finding heroin in his apartment.

Michael Berry, 24, of West Yarmouth was arrested and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

At around 6 a.m., the Cape Cod Regional SWAT Team and Yarmouth police found $200 in cash and eight small bags of heroin worth about $400 at Berry's apartment in the Cape Cod Vacation Condominium Complex at 91 Route 28, according to Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos.

Berry was scheduled to be arraigned today in Barnstable District Court.

The housing complex had 150 police calls of varying nature during a seven-month period in 2012. Police seized drugs and cash found in a room rented to a North Carolina man on Aug. 21.

"That's our No. 1 trouble spot in town," Xiarhos said of the complex. Citing poor living conditions and the work done by various town agencies in cooperation with management he believes the complex will cease operations within a year and be replaced by a new motel complex.

"The people there deserve better," he added.
