SUKKUR: Commissioner Sukkur, Muhammad Abbas Baloch, disclosed in his briefing to Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah here on Monday that 54 people had been killed and 310 injured in the recent rains in the Sukkur division.
He told the CM that a population of 1,161,300 in 4,572 villages was affected, 84,010 houses damaged while at least 755 cattle were killed in the heavy rains. He stated that crops on 64,4861 acres of agricultural land were completely destroyed.
Giving a briefing to the CM, he said that 12 relief camps for the victims had been set up in the Sukkur region, where 48,437 ration bags, 10,000 water bottles and 10,000 packs of milk had been distributed. He said 700 tents and 1,000 tarpaulin sheets were provided to the stranded families. He said 84,676 patients were examined at the medical camps while as many as 20,862 cattle were vaccinated.
The stagnant rain water had been drained out from 937 villages in 78 different union councils, while fumigation was carried out in all of these villages, he said. He said 80 percent of stagnant rain water in the district had been drained out using 36 pumping machines while the remaining 20 percent would be pumped out within three weeks.
The chief minister directed all deputy commissioners to drain out the stagnant water from their respective districts so that the people could begin the Rabi season cultivation. He also directed them to provide maximum relief to the rain-victims and provide health facilities to them.
