MISSOULA - The University of Montana announced Monday morning in a media release that three players had been suspended from the football team. But Montana's News Station has since learned that a fourth player is off the team indefinitely after being arrested on a felony drug charge.
UM's news release announced that redshirt freshman linebacker Nick Holt, junior linebacker John Kanongata'a, and junior offensive lineman Kjelby Oiland are each suspended for one game. But the release made no mention of a fourth player's indefinite suspension or arrest.
Trevor Poole, 20, was arrested Saturday night for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, which is a felony, after attending an all night party event called the Disco Bloodbath.
UM Director of Athletics Kent Haslam has confirmed with Montana's News Station that Poole has been suspended indefinitely following the arrest, as per the UM Student Code of Conduct.
Poole is being held on $50,000 bail and is due in court Monday.
UM's media release says the three other suspensions come for violation of team rules and the players will not travel to Ogden, Utah, for Saturday's Big Sky Conference game at Weber State.
"It is an unfortunate situation, but expectations are clear," Delaney said. "I will not go in to particulars about why the three were suspended, but I can say it does not involve law enforcement. I feel it is my responsibility to hold players accountable."
