Gary police officer arrested, charged with drug trafficking in Oklahoma - nwitimes.com

A Gary police officer was being held in an Oklahoma jail late Tuesday on allegations she was trafficking drugs, officials said.

Officer Marla Guye was taken into police custody by Oklahoma Highway Patrol in Chandler, Okla., on Tuesday, officials at the Lincoln County Jail said.

Guye, 29, of Gary, was hired by Gary police in 2009 and was scheduled to work Tuesday but didn't show up, Police Chief Wade Ingram said.

"If these charges are true and she is convicted, I will be seeking her dismissal," he said.

This arrest comes in the wake of other problems with officers hired around the same time, Ingram said.

Former Gary Officer David Finley currently has a pending case in federal court involving marijuana and cocaine distribution. He pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Sept. 24.

Ingram said he's hoping to bring back random drug testing for the force to deter drug use within the department.

He also said he encourages any officers involved with drugs to immediately discontinue the behavior.

"These people messed up their careers," he said.

Ingram's message to the rest of his force echoed what he said after Finley's arrest in August.

"If they're involved in drug activity, they need to cease and desist their actions," he said. "If they are using or addicted to drugs or narcotics, they need to check into drug rehab. If not, they will continue to be prosecuted by the criminal justice system."

Guye was being held on a $7,500 bond and is scheduled for a court appearance Monday in Oklahoma.
