Murder suspect has domestic violence history - KOKI FOX 23

FOX23 was there to see 17-year-old Hank Laird leave police questioning at the Detective Division in downtown Tulsa.

Laird is in the Tulsa County Jail on a first degree murder charge in the death of his mother, Linda. She was found dead in her home near 71st and Yale on Tuesday.

Tulsa Police Department Sargent Dave Walker tells FOX23 detectives delved into the teenager's background during the investigation and discovered that Laird has a history of domestic violence.

"We found that he has a domestic violence history as being the aggressor and his mother was the target of the domestic violence," said Sgt. Walker.

"Tragically like any other, when you allow the aggressor to come back you set yourself up for some heartache," said Sgt. Walker, "This one turned tragic and as a result, Linda is dead."

Laird, who turned 17 in November, is now accused of hitting his mother over the head with the butt of a shotgun, which caused her death.

Neighbors tell FOX23 they believe Hank had been at a military-type school for a period of time.

In an effort to find out more information about Laird's past the station filed a request to obtain his juvenile court and law enforcement records. FOX23 is still waiting for a judge to approve the request.

Sgt. Walker says that Laird was questioned by detectives to obtain more information on the investigation.

"We are talking with him to try to get the circumstances of what occurred," said Sgt. Walker.
